Initial Consultation

During a hearing aid consultation at Texas Better Hearing Center, the audiologist will go over your hearing test results with you.  Depending on your test results, your reported difficulties, lifestyle, etc., recommendations will be offered.  Sometimes hearing aids can be programmed to your hearing loss and you can hear for yourself what proper amplification might sound like.  An explanation of hearing aid technology will be given and any questions you may have will be addressed.  There is no obligation.  The appointment time is approximately 30 minutes.

Should you decide to purchase hearing aids, impressions of your ears will be taken if necessary.  This is a very easy and painless procedure and takes 5 to 10 minutes.  These impressions will be sent to the hearing aid manufacturer to be used to make your custom hearing aids.  Turnaround time is 7-10 business days.  Once they arrive, an appointment will be set for your fitting.

Hearing Aid Fitting Appointment

Once your hearing aids have come in we will set an appointment for the initial fitting.  We will first check the physical fit of the hearing aids in your ears.  They should not hurt your ears in any way.  If they are uncomfortable, we can modify them in our Hearing Aid Lab in order to obtain a good, comfortable fit.

We will then connect the hearing aids to the computer for programming.  The hearing aids will be programmed according to your audiogram.  You will have the aids in your ears during the programming so that you can participate in the fitting process. The initial setting for hearing aids will probably be softer than the final setting, but you will need some time to adjust to the amplification.  After programming, we will practice taking the aids in and out of your ears, practice changing the batteries, and we will show you how to clean them.

We will then go over the hearing aid contract together, which includes the warranty information, the make, model and cost of the aids, and the 30 day Return for Credit policy.  We will then go to the front desk for payment and schedule your follow-up appointment.

First Follow-up appointment

We like to see our hearing aid clients within two weeks of the fitting for the first follow-up.  At the first follow-up appointment we will go over your experiences with the hearing aids.  Adjustments to the programming and the fit can be made as necessary.   We can answer any questions you many have.

Second Follow-up appointment

The second follow-up is usually near the end of your month trial period.  We will be sure that the hearing aids are satisfactory and beneficial to you.  Of course, programming and fit adjustments can be made at this time.  Many people are ready for a little more amplification at this time after having had time to adapt to the aids.  If you are not happy with the aids, this is when we will decide if you want to return the aids for credit, or if we feel that there is another hearing aid option that will work better for you.  If we should decide to change styles or models of hearing aids, we will return the original aids and order the new ones for you.  The 30 day trial period will start over when the new aids arrive.  No additional dispensing fee will be charged for the new fitting.

Ongoing

We encourage you to come for a check-up any time that you feel you are not hearing well.  We will remind you to come for a year check and/or before your factory warranty expires.  Service here at TBHC during the life of the hearing aid is included in the price of your hearing aid; so don’t hesitate to call us if you have questions or concerns.
